College Magazine Analysis

My analysis of a College magazine is on College Lifestyle Magazine. The target audience appears to be A and B, due to the fact that the model in the centre of the cover is carrying books on law, business and society which are classed as academic subjects. The books imply along with the other magazine features that it is an academic College which teach subjects which rely heavily on revision from textbooks rather than vocational subjects which just rely on practical exams. Therefore, this college will appeal to Aspirers and Succeeders who want to have the rich and luxurious lifestyles by getting the qualifications from more logical subjects like Law and Business. From my own understanding I believe they chose a model from a different nationality to show how the division between social classes and races are breaking down as society is becoming more modern. Also, the model appears to be an example of a typical middle class student as he is wearing smart/casual clothing. The magazine has only used very few colours; white, lime green and pink. The green has been used to show each individual information section; this stands out from the rest of the cover and shows they are the main sections. White has been used to give a brief description of each section and pink has only been used once to show a competition for paintballing, the style has been shown as a paint splat to go with the theme of paintballing. The singular use of pink makes the competition stand out from the rest of the magazine cover and immediately draws your eyes to that particular section. The font used is simple and easily readable and has been placed around the model in the centre of the magazine, the readers eyes are than drawn around the whole of the magazine cover. The other magazine features shown on the cover support my idea that the target audience is middle class and upwards as one of the features is promoting the “blackberry” phone, this make of phone is known to be very expensive and contains certain features such as a personal planner which are normally associated with middle class and up. The other feature “make money on campus” also implies the target audience are Aspirers as they would have an entrepreneur mind-set and want to make money to suit their desire to have a rich lifestyle.
