Institutional Data- Overview of Industry

IPC Media produces over 85 iconic media brands, with their print brands alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 44% of UK men –almost 27 million UK adults – while their online brands collectively reach 20 million users every month.

IPC's diverse print and digital portfolio offers something for everyone, with a focus on three core audiences: men, mass market women and upmarket women.

IPC's men's portfolio (IPC Inspire) comprises a wealth of leisure brands including Country Life, Horse & Hound, Rugby World and Decanter, as well as lifestyle brands including Nuts, Mousebreaker and NME.

Their mass market women's division (IPC Connect) comprises famous women's weeklies including Look, Now, Chat and Woman; TV entertainment brands including What's on TV, TVTimes and TV & Satellite Week and, online, the goodtoknow network.

IPC's upmarket women's division (IPC Southbank) comprises luxury fashion brands including Marie Claire and InStyle, lifestyle brands including woman&home and essentials and home interest brands including Ideal Home, Livingetc and housetohome.

The distribution of magazines play a major role in influencing the population. IPC produce a large amount of media brands ranging from What's on TV to Ideal Home, this means that their magazines will reach a large amount of the UK population due to their wide range of magazines Their magazines are aimed at both males and females from all different social classes so their tactics to entice certain readers will not go unmissed. Advertisements included in magazines can have a big influence in what their readers will buy for example; 83% of Kerrang! readers bought an album as a direct result of an article they saw in their magazine. Overall media has a major control over society as we are constantly being tricked into buy products that are being advertised in media products such as magazines.
